British Computer Society (BCS)

Whatever you want to achieve in your career, the BCS Professional Examination can help fulfil your ambition. The British Computer Society (BCS) Professional Examination is an internationally recognised qualification, essential for a career in computing and IT.  It is examined to the level of an honours degree, which acknowledges your practical experience as well as your academic abilities. It will give you a distinctive edge over the competition, as employers can be confident that you know not only what you are doing, but how and why.

Commencement: January,  July & September of each year.

Study Mode: Full-Time (15 -21 hours per week)

THE STRUCTURE OF THE EXAMINATION

The Examination has a modular structure, set in three parts.

CERTIFICATE 
The Certificate is examined to the academic level of the first year of a Higher National diploma. It consists of a two-hour written paper on each of the three compulsory modules:

bullet Information Systems
bullet Software Development
bullet Computer & Network Technology

Course Fee:
UK Residing Students £2500.00
Overseas Students £3750.00

DIPLOMA 
The Diploma is examined to the academic level of a Higher National Diploma. It consists of a two-hour written paper on the compulsory core module:

bullet Professional Issues in Information Systems Practice

PLUS a two-hour written paper on each of three modules chosen from the following list.

bullet Architecture
bullet Computer Networks
bullet Database Systems
bullet Object Oriented Programming
bullet IT Project Management
bullet Systems Analysis
bullet Systems Design (April only)
bulletPrinciples of Internet Technologies (April only)
bulletIT Service Management (April only)
bulletSoftware Engineering 1 (April only)
bulletPrinciple of User Interface Design (April only)

Course Fee:
UK Residing Students £2750.00
Overseas Students £3900.00

You may attempt either the Professional Project (Diploma level) or go on to the Professional Graduate Diploma 

PROFESSIONAL GRADUATE DIPLOMA 
The Professional Graduate Diploma is examined to the academic level of a UK university honours degree. It consists of a three-hour written paper on each of four modules chosen from the following list.

bullet Advanced Database Management Systems
bullet Management Information Systems
bulletComputer Services Management
bullet Software Engineering 2
bullet Knowledge Based Systems (April only)
bulletDistributed and Parallel Systems (April only)
bulletNetwork Information Systems (April only)
bullet Systems Design Methods (April only)
bullet Realising the User Interface (April only)
bullet Web Engineering (April only)
bulletProgramming Paradigms (April only)

In order to finish the Professional Graduate Diploma in IT level candidates must complete a project, which will be the academic equivalent of a UK university honours degree project
